Have you Submitted Your Blog to Snap Yet?
Just a short post to let everyone know that you can submit your website or blog to Snap, a search engine that allows you see preview images of search results on a separate viewing panel before you click on them to visit the website.
I’ve recently discovered this nifty search engine and was a little amazed to find that Dosh Dosh wasn’t indexed and included in their search results at all. I’ve tried searches for the blog title and URL but nothing came up.
I dugg around their website a little, found their site submission form somewhere in their FAQ and submitted Dosh Dosh. This was a few weeks ago and I’ve received around 8 visitors from Snap since.
Not outstanding traffic but somewhat expected from a relatively new but fast growing search engine which saw around 12 million searches in March 2007.
I’ve just checked the search results pages and noticed that only four pages from Dosh Dosh were indexed, which was rather disappointing. This probably accounts for the poor search traffic that I’ve received from Snap so far.
Reading their help section or blog yielded no clues as to how Snap actually ranks their search results. Hopefully someone from Snap can head on over and offer some insight on the factors which determine how Snap indexes and rank various websites.

Snap Image Search: Useful Tool for Designers & Bloggers
I do however love using Snap’s Image Search to look for specific images. The image browsing functionality is superior to the major search engines because it allows for very efficient and fast browsing through the mouse scroll wheel.
You can even choose to filter your search by viewing only black and white images. Very cool. The only drawback (or some would say advantage) is the low volume of image results.
For example, an image search for ‘cow’ on Snap gives you around 300,000 results while a similar search on Google gives you 2.8 million pictures.
Snap’s Image Search tool will probably be very useful for bloggers or web designers who need to find that specific image to complement their template design or blog post.
Other Free Search Engine Submissions..
Do note that you can also submit your website or blog to over 20+ search engines each at both Submit Express and Free Web Submission.
The submission process takes 30 seconds and it might be useful if you’ve got a new website or never gotten any traffic from the various listed search engines before.

Great links
Though I’m not surprised being indexed by snap. I guess they index all sites that uses or used their snap preview.

Well I was surprised to see my blog already listed - I am surprised DoshDosh wasn’t already there when you checked!
I too, am a big fan of Snap’s graphical preview.

Wonderful post. I added my blog to the above, thanks for the reminder. I tried there search but didnt like it much.
I have now, thanks for the info. Hopefully it will send some traffic one day.
Thanks for the heads up. I just submitted my blog.
You said “Snap’s Image Search tool will probably be very useful for bloggers or web designers who need to find that specific image to complement their template design or blog post.” — does their search tool specifically search for images that have a Creative Commons license that allows others to use them? Because else that would be stealing, right?
Are the images in the image bank free to use…and copyright free?
Hannes and DigitalNomad,
If you took a look at the Image Search.. you may have noticed a warning notice at the bottom of the right viewing panel.
It reads:
“You must obtain the appropriate permissions to use any linked image from the owner(s) of the material.”
And there is a link to file a complaint to Snap if an owner of an image thinks his material is being stolen. Evidently, images on Snap are not all free to use and copyright free.
I’m not suggesting that users steal a specific image. Of course, the user needs to exercise his or her own common sense and request for permission to use the image or give proper credit.
As far as I know, Flickr is the only search engine that allows you to search for images that have a Creative Commons license which allows for common use.

Yep, I saw all this, just thought maybe I was missing something. I still cannot figure how to make Snap active on a blog for previews.
Point me in the right direction. It does not look like you have it on you blog?
DigitalNomad,
You can use the SnapShots Wordpress Plugin:

Good god I’ve been indexed, but I don’t like the preview thumnail of me with my ugly hair!
Nice search engine lets hope its get popular, for the shake of diversity.
Wow, thanks! I have actually seen Snap on some of our competitor’s sites, but I had no idea what it was (duh, I should have clicked the pop-ups!). That actually really helps a lot. Nice blog you have here. You are definitely being added to my favorites! Thanks again!
Yeah,
I always want to install this plugin for my wp blog, i think I will do it over this weekend. Anyway it is a good tool too.
I always thought Snap was just an ad service; I didn’t actually know it was a search engine. Thanks for the information!
Thanks for your tip, it’s a new one for me!
I found you through Darren’s post on Problogger. I, like Dylan, also thought that Snap was only an ad service.
Thanks again!
