Revenue Sharing Podcasts for Blogs - Odiogo
Odiogo is a Web 2.0 service that allows you to transform your blog entries or textual content into high quality podcasts, which your readers can download for easy listening on mp3 players, PDAs or computers. Odiogo downloads the latest articles from your website’s RSS feed and extracts the text to convert it into high fidelity sound clips.
Best of all, Odiogo is completely free for all publishers and offers a revenue share program for bloggers and webmasters.
Some other very cool features from Odiogo’s website.
- Automatic podcast generation
- Near-human quality text-to-speech
- Drag-and-drop integration on your blog
- Detailed download statistics
- Make money from embedded ads
- Leverages RSS feeds of all blogging platforms such as Typepad and Blogger
- Generated MP3 files are stored on Odiogo servers. No bandwidth required from your side.
How can I make money with Odiogo?
Odiogo shares its advertising revenues with certain publishers who have a significant level of listeners. Similar to the RSS subscribers prerequisite for feed advertising, you’ll get a chance to earn a share of their ad income if you have a sizable amount of readers who regularly download and listen to your podcast.
The amount you’ll earn is calculated according to factors such as the number of downloads, geographical distribution of end-users and number of ads.
What kind of ads will be inserted into my podcast?
Odiogo doesn’t go into detail about ads on their website but they did mention that their advertising servers will “insert audio spots into the content.” I assume that this would be somewhat similar to your everyday radio ad.
Thoughts on Odiogo

Let’s start with the voice and sound quality for the converted text. For your convenience, I’ve embedded an audio sample of a post from Techie Diva below. All screenshots and audio files are taken from Odiogo’s demo page

While it doesn’t sound very natural, the pronunciation and word-flow is quite understandable. I wouldn’t mind listening to it at all. What do y’all think?
Like Feedburner’s feed subscription page, Odiogo’s podcast signup page allows the reader to choose from several options.
Here’s a screen grab:

I’ve just signed up with Odiogo and am currently waiting for them to contact me with more instructions on how to get started. I think most readers consider audio ads to be a little intrusive but there might be some earning potential if your website or blog is very popular and has a strong reader base.
This of course, also depends on the rates that Odiogo will be offering. More details on this to come when I’m able to experiment with their revenue share scheme.
Any of you out there currently using Odiogo to publish podcasts on your blog?

hmmm, its a good idea in theory, but I would definatly rather read it than listen to it like that. If it were a ‘real person’ reading it more naturally it would be way better.
You have an outstanding good and well structured site. I enjoyed browsing through it.
