Tips on Productivity – How to Achieve Your Goal of Making Money Online
When it comes to making money online, productivity is a key factor that can determine how much money you can make every week or month. If you’re trying to make money blogging, the quality of your output and it’s frequency is rather important because it can affect how fast you build a audience base or have the ability to monetize your blog.
Even if you’re purely interested in websites which pay you to complete offers, you’ll also require some level of intense dedication towards the nitty gritty work of filling in surveys, making trial purchases or tracking incoming payments.
I was recently tagged by Daniel Scocco and Doris Chua for a group writing project about productivity. Titled the Ultimate Guide to Productivity and originated by Ben Yoskovitz, the aim of this project was to share tips about how to be more productive in one’s personal or work life.
When it comes to making money from the web, I always use three main principles, which allow me to keep my level of productivity and earning potential high.
Diversify Your Projects and Focus
First of all, I like to have a list of money making projects that will allow me to diversify my focus and income. Sometimes I feel that I get easily burnt out if I work too much on one project, which might not even pay off as much as I expected.
Keeping a manageable number of projects at hand allows you to stay fresh and active. When I don’t want to work on my blogs, I’ll just switch over to my affiliate websites and do something else.
For example, I’m recently a little tired of writing and have been thinking of trying another medium altogether, especially when it seems so very easy to make money with a video blog. Having a portfolio of projects in rotation keeps me active and on my toes.
Collaborate with Other Like-Minded Individuals
I love working with people on joint projects because the burden of the workload is shared with others. Working on joint online businesses and websites and interacting with others increases your appetite for the project. Not to mention that you’ll usually learn a lot from others.
I’ve enjoyed doing collaborations with other webmasters, particularly if they are very dedicated to the goal of making money. Finding and working with someone that is knowledgeable and passionate naturally injects productivity into your system.
Delegate Work to Save Yourself Time and Energy
There is definitely a limit to the number of things you can do everyday and it is important to note that not everyone can do certain things as well as you. Learning how to delegate tasks ensures that your productivity stays high.
Planning your blog or business’s long term goal and marketing it to very important people is something that is best done by yourself personally. This is not something you want to leave to a hired hand unless there is a high level of trust for the specific individual.
Let’s take another example. If I were to change the Wordpress theme for Dosh Dosh now, I certainly wouldn’t spend time tweaking another template to suit my liking. I haven’t got the time to do so and I’ll rather spend some money on a good designer and leave the headache and creative work to someone else.
If I’m starting niche websites to make money off Adsense, I probably wouldn’t spend time to manually update each blog daily. What I’ll do is, I’ll probably pick a suitable Adsense Wordpress template, come up with a list of keywords and hire a blogger/writer to publish content daily.
In a sense, this is what revenue sharing websites are all about. A social website gives you a percentage of their ad earnings and in return, you contribute content which allows them to attract more visitors and search traffic. This is just a more subtle and indirect form of delegation.
By assigning work to other people, it saves you time and enables you to diversify and grow all your money making ventures.
Other Productivity Gurus I call Upon Thee..
I’m supposed to tag some other bloggers so they can share their productivity tips as well. Here are the ones I’ve handpicked with loving editorial care:
- Daniel from The Wrong Advices
- Jonathan from SmartWealthyRich
Hey thanx a lot for the tag Maki, i already participated in the group writing project a couple days ago, but i’ll definitely write more posts on the subject, that’s for sure.
Really good points you bring, i especilly like the “Collaborate with Other Like-Minded Individuals”, feels so good when you find someone that has similar interests, that is dedicated and you get along with, productivity just seems to flow, ideas, creativity.
You’re welcome, Jonathan. I must have missed out on that post of yours. I’ll take a closer look at the blog again..
You got nice blog. There was lot of information. I would like to know that how hard is it make money with blog. Does it take lots and lots of luck and hard work? How long it takes that you can have even a little bit of money? And of course is that all worth it?
No prob Maki!
I’ll definitely write a follow-up on the productivity post i wrote sometime this week.
Take care
how do you choose to collaborate on others do you have a set criteria for this?
I would like to know the basis for this in helping me try on with such projects.
Thanks
Keith
@Happymoney
It’s actually not very hard to make money with a blog…but yes, it does take a lot of work. If you enjoy blogging and like making money from it, it’ll probably be worth the effort.
@Keith
No really set criteria. The most important factor is chemistry I guess. You need to trust your business partner and he or she needs to trust you.
Usually I find that joint projects work best when you’ve already had a somewhat long and consistent relationship with the other person, so you more or less know what sort of character you will be working with.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for doing the meme and for sharing your insights, Maki. Of all the 3 main principles you outlined, which one is working BEST for you?
Good point about diversification, the old phrase ‘don’t put all your eggs in one basket’ can get broken down on lots of levels. Like you said its good to have separate projects, but again for each one the income streams can be dirversified further, i.e. on blogs theres AdSence, TLA, affiliate links etc
Doris,
I do all three of them on a regular basis so I can’t say which one is doing best for me.
For example, I have several different online projects which involve working with other people and outsourcing work to other people as well. In some way, the three principles are integrated together.
Collaboration and dedication – surely two key points when it comes to productivity.
I would also add focus and determination.
- Martin Reed
I always enjoy reading your blog, Maki. I like usual common sense stuff, and you write a lot of that.
I think I will need to focus a lot more on productivity, I always find I dont have enough time to get all the things I want done within a specific time frame.
Very good advice! I’ve been giving a lot of thought to this area lately because I am really feeling the need to be more productive. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to work on!
As usual excellent information, productivity and focus are key for success and success equals money!
