Earning with Social Media: Thoughts on Panjea

Panjea is a social media website which allows you to earn a percentage of the advertising revenue when your uploaded music or videos are downloaded or viewed. A mashup of several proven social media websites like MySpace, YouTube and Flickr, Panjea is well designed and caters very much to the web-savvy and web 2.0-ish crowd. The concept of the entire site is very MySpace-ish and is geared towards helping one hook with like-minded individuals with similar interests. I spent some time exploring Panjea’s potential as way to make money online. An excerpt from their website reads..

3 Ways to Get Paid on Panjea

1. Panjea Store. Sell your music and videos on Panjea. Discover new artists and download with a click.

2. Panjea Adshare. Get a % of ALL ad revenue when people listen to your songs, watch your videos, or visit your page.

3. Panjea Points. Earn points just for participating in panjea and redeem for free music and videos.

DOSH DOSH REVIEW

A mashup that is reminiscent of MySpace, Youtube and Flickr, Panjea pretty much covers all aspects of social media. You can share images, music and videos with others or choose to set up your own personal blog. Navigation is pretty easy with a prominent menu bar at the top of the page.

Like other social websites, Panjea operates by folksonomy so you can easily label or search for any material via tags.

All videos or songs submitted must be original and you’ll get to keep 85% of the revenue every time your stuff is downloaded. The exact amount you’ll earn per video is not stated but Panjea does clarify that you’ll receive payment via Paypal once you reached $25.

As for the Adshare program.. Panjea states that you’ll earn up to”50% of the ad revenue earned when people visit your page on Panjea and click on the ads which appear there.” Payout rate is the same as the store and Panjea has claimed that you’ll eventually be able to decide what ads to display on your homepage.

Here’s a screenshot of a typical user homepage/profile:

The major problem with Panjea is that even though there so many platforms for interaction, there doesn’t seem to be much going on. Most profiles are very minimally updated and there are many, many empty blogs with zero comments. There seems to be a void in the whole body of Panjea: social interaction, networking or conversation seem to be very weak.

What’s Cool.

  • Ability to sell original music/videos online
  • Profit sharing through ad views and clicks
  • Easy to use and non-cluttered interface
  • What’s Not

  • No confirmation as yet if they actually do pay their users
  • Lack of meaningful social interaction
  • No forum or FAQ available for new users
  • Earning potential is weak because of limited internal traffic
  • Verdict

I guess Panjea came up with a good idea but ended up being limited by the lack of active users. However, their website does offer a platform for self-promotion.

You could sell your original material or choose to use your Panjea profile as some sort of a landing page to promote specific videos, images or affiliate referrals. Perhaps linking to Panjea through your blog or post in forum might work.

Other than that, I can’t see how you can generate enough internal traffic to earn any substantial money from Panjea alone. My suggestion: try if you have the time, and remember to network! Sign up here.
